A Piece of Gum

Sometimes we have those mornings or days where it just seems that one bad thing after another keeps happening. Chaos is everywhere around the house, no one is listening or doing what they are supposed to be doing, the dogs are chewing things they shouldn't and making you chase them because they are frustrated, there are problems at work already, someone is getting into something they aren't supposed to be into and that is just the start of it.

I had one of those mornings today where I just wanted to curl up in a ball in my room and not deal with any of it, but I had to be an adult and push through. I finally got one child to school on time with about 1 minute to spare. On the drive home my low tire pressure light came on and I realized that I needed gas too. I stopped at the gas station by our house to get gas then put air in my tires and check them out.

Right when I had finished texting my husband "this day has to turn around" and thinking to myself it has to get better, a sweet man came out from the gas station just to give me a piece of gum. I have heard from my husband that this man holds doors and hands out gum to everyone, but this was the first time I had experienced it myself.

You know what? That piece of gum that he gave me turned my morning and my mood around. Things weren't perfect suddenly, but everything shifted. One small random act of kindness as small as giving someone a piece of gum when they're having a rough morning can be all that is needed to make someone's day better, bring a smile to their face in place of a frown, lift their spirits or let them know that someone cares. You can break the cycle of chaos or bad things happening for someone else in many different ways.

Have you done any random acts of kindness lately? Have you smiled at someone as you passed them, held a door open for someone, picked something up for someone, left a dollar or 2 lying around with nice message attached to it for someone else to find or done anything else like that? Chances are when you do something nice for someone else, you're also going to lift your own mood while you're at it and raise your vibes.

Be a giver, be a sharer, be someone who smiles at others or any other thing you can do today to make the world brighter, happier and shinier. You could be the person that shares a piece of gum with someone and turns their day around.

What will you do today? What are some of your favorite random acts of kindness? Leave a comment below and let me know. I would love to hear about them!
