If you're like most people this time of the year you are spending a lot of time outside and you may be trying to find a great bug spray that works well, doesn't smell bad, doesn't contain harmful ingredients or doesn't feel gross on your skin. If this is you, I have some great essential oil suggestions for you!
How do you make a bug spray? It is as simple as adding 20-30 drops of essential oil in distilled water in 4 oz bottle (or adjusting for your own personal preference or different size). I use distilled water if I won't use it quickly. You can also add some witch hazel if you would like for extra effectiveness.
If you don't want to make a spray or use a spray, you can also apply a few drops of essential oil to your hat, socks, other clothing item, ankles, wrists and skin that is exposed to the air. You can also add it to some fractionated coconut oil or another carrier oil of your choice and apply it to your skin that way. It is always best to dilute when using essential oils on your skin because they are so potent.
Another option for bug repellent is to diffuse one of these essential oils or a mixture of a few of them on your deck or other places where you have access to electricity and want to keep bugs away. For this you will need a good quality essential oil diffuser.
I only use pure essential oils from doTERRA for several reasons. One reason is that they are grown where they are indigenous and harvested at the proper time, which results in oils that have a better therapeutic benefit. Another reason is that the people who grow, harvest and distill the oils are paid on time, fair wages throughout the year which creates a great benefit for both the consumers and the growers, harvesters and distillers (this is known as Co-Impact Sourcing). You can find these oils on my website (here). Please email me with questions and I can help you get started with a wholesale account of your own to save you the most money on very high quality essential oils that WORK.
